About

UPDATE 08/2020
I’ll be 50 this month. I’ll rewrite this since who I am and was has changed–not much, but worth a rewrite.

I’m a 45 year-old male American expat English professor who is tired of living in Japan and would like to go home.

My Journey Starts Here

After so many years of living in a bubble I’ve finally decided it’s time for me to head back to America and see if I can retire there. I’ve been in Japan for over 15 years and have only visited America once in that time: for one week last summer. I loved it. I felt at home. Maybe I should make it my last home.

Why?

Because, in America I can understand most everything around me. I can understand the language, the music, the signs, the newspapers, TV shows, conversations, body language, and humor – EVERYTHING! I don’t care about terrorists. I don’t care about Trump or the Kardashians. I care about nature, freedom, and self reliance.

“Better to sleep in an uncomfortable bed free, than sleep in a comfortable bed unfree.”
― Jack Kerouac, On the Road

In Japan, I can’t live free. I have to be a supporter to my child and a “proper” companion for my wife.

It’s time for change.
